Proximity - Proximity in design simply means that objects near each other are seen as a unit. It really is that simple and it's something you see every day. On your web page or your business card, related information is placed closely together and it forms a visual unit.

Focus - In photography, it's practically married to sharpness. An image that is completely sharp is said to be in-focus. An image that's completely blurry is said to be unfocused. The same metaphor applies to your mind. When you concentrate, your mind is sharp.

Representation - In term of subject and content, and how it is shown, can be termed "representation."

Time - Time-lapse photography is a technique whereby the frequency at which film frames are captured (the frame rate) is much lower than that used to view the sequence. When played at normal speed, time appears to be moving faster and thus lapsing.
